Can I Take Tylenol While Pregnant?

Mandy, Midwife at The Baby Academy

Tylenol, otherwise known as paracetamol or acetaminophen, is a common over-the-counter pain medication that is generally safe to take during pregnancy. Studies have shown that this medicine poses a very low risk to your baby. That being said, it is always best to consult your doctor so they can direct you as to the medication most appropriate to your circumstances. 1g of paracetamol can be taken 4 times per day, every six hours. One gram is divided in two 500mg tablets. Be aware that cold remedy drinks like Lemsip often have 1g per sachet. Be vigilant in reading labels. Accidental overdose of paracetamol or tylenol can cause liver damage.
